Terms of Service
The agreement for using Astrotechne accounts, chart tools, reports, subscriptions, add-ons, and research features.
Agreement
These Terms govern access to Astrotechne, including the website, accounts, chart tools, reports, timing tools, client and people workspaces, subscriptions, add-ons, and related services.
Astrotechne is operated by Opertus Systems. Opertus Systems was founded in California, maintains an office there, and currently conducts business from Utah.
By creating an account, using Astrotechne, starting a checkout, or continuing to use the service after these Terms change, you agree to these Terms. If you use Astrotechne for a client, organization, or other person, you confirm that you have authority to do so and that you are responsible for the data you enter.
Astrology, Research, and Professional Judgment
Astrotechne provides astrology software, calculations, reports, and research tools. Astrological outputs are interpretive and experimental. They are not medical, legal, financial, psychological, crisis, or other licensed professional advice.
You are responsible for how you interpret and use the outputs. Do not delay or avoid professional care, emergency help, legal advice, financial advice, or other qualified support because of anything generated in Astrotechne.
Accounts and Security
- Keep your sign-in credentials and magic links secure.
- Provide accurate account and billing information.
- Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
- You are responsible for activity under your account unless the activity was caused by our failure to use reasonable security measures.
Subscriptions, Add-ons, and Billing
Paid subscriptions and report purchases are billed through Stripe. Prices are displayed in USD and are exclusive of tax; applicable VAT, GST, sales tax, or similar charges are calculated at checkout by Stripe Tax based on customer location.
At MVP, Astrotechne offers Free, Core, and Supporter access. Core is $12 per month or $108 per year and includes 6 reports per month. Supporter is $24 per month or $192 per year and includes 15 reports per month. New Free accounts receive 3 introductory free reports that can be used across the launch report families: Asteroid Report, Doctrine Report, and Timing Report.
After your included monthly reports or introductory free reports are used, any single launch report can be generated through a flat $3.99 pay-to-generate checkout regardless of tier. A pay-to-generate purchase is report-specific and does not create a stored balance.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled, unless the checkout flow states otherwise.
- You authorize recurring charges for the subscription plan you choose, plus applicable taxes.
- Monthly included reports refresh each billing month and do not roll over. Unused included reports expire at the end of the applicable monthly period.
- Introductory free reports do not refresh after they are used. We may expire unused introductory grants if an account is closed, inactive, abusive, or otherwise ineligible.
- Astrotechne does not sell credit packs, wallet balances, stored paid credits, transferable balances, or prepaid report bundles at MVP.
- You can manage or cancel an active Stripe subscription from the billing portal when portal access is available for your account.
- Cancellation generally stops future renewals and does not automatically refund the current billing period. Canceling Core or Supporter can remove paid-plan feature access and stops future monthly report refreshes after the paid access period ends.
- Downgrades, failed payments, charge reversals, expired subscriptions, or payment disputes may suspend, downgrade, or remove paid feature access and report allowances.
- Canceled or incomplete checkout sessions should not grant report access. Duplicate charges, payment failures, or failed report generation after payment should be reported to support so we can retry, recover access, or review a refund.
- Delivered report artifacts are normally final once generated, but refunds may be provided when required by law or when we choose to grant one case by case.
- Promotions, coupons, gifted access, and manual access grants may have their own limits and may be changed or withdrawn where allowed by law.
Your Content and Client Data
You keep ownership of names, notes, birth details, locations, chart data, events, reports, client records, and other content you enter or upload. You grant Astrotechne a limited license to host, process, transform, calculate from, display, back up, secure, troubleshoot, and otherwise use that content as needed to operate and improve the service.
If you enter information about another person, including a client, friend, historical figure, or linked account, you are responsible for having an appropriate basis to do so. Practitioners are responsible for their own client disclosures, consents, recordkeeping, and professional obligations.
Astrological Research Use
You allow Astrotechne to use private workspace chart inputs, chart outputs, timing data, report structures, feature usage, and related service data for internal astrological research, product development, quality review, statistical analysis, and publication of de-identified or aggregated research findings.
Astrotechne will not share personally identifying information from your private workspace externally for astrological research. External research outputs based on private workspace data must be aggregated, de-identified, pseudonymized, or otherwise structured so that they do not reasonably identify you, your clients, or other people whose data appears in your private workspace.
Names, email addresses, phone numbers, private freeform notes, account identifiers, payment details, and direct client contact details from private workspace records are not shared externally as research data. Public contributions are handled separately below. More detail is available in the Privacy Policy.
Public Research Contributions
Astrotechne may let users submit charts, historical events, biographical details, locations, source notes, citations, tags, corrections, comments, ratings, source-history notes, and related records to a public research database. Public contributions are not treated like private workspace records.
When you mark a record for the public research database or otherwise submit it as a public contribution, you grant Astrotechne a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable, perpetual, and irrevocable license to host, store, reproduce, display, publish, distribute, index, search, edit, annotate, format, translate, analyze, combine, create derivative works from, and otherwise use the contribution for Astrotechne, research, archival, educational, product, and publication purposes.
Public contributions may be visible to other users or the public, may be copied or cited by others, may be included in datasets, exports, indexes, summaries, analysis, and publications, and may remain available even if you later delete your account or remove the original private record.
The public research database may also include third-party open datasets and operator-curated source records. Those records are different from private user charts and may carry source-specific licenses, attribution requirements, share-alike obligations, retention rules, export limits, source links, change notices, and no-endorsement notices.
- Only submit information you have the right to submit.
- Do not submit private information about living people unless you have consent, a lawful basis, or the information is already lawfully public and appropriate for this research context.
- Do not submit email addresses, phone numbers, payment details, private client notes, confidential records, medical details, government identifiers, or other sensitive private data as public contributions.
- Use citations, source notes, data-quality labels, and uncertainty notes when submitting historical event information or biographical data.
- Do not upload copyrighted text, structured data extracts, or third-party material unless you have permission or the use is otherwise lawful.
- Do not submit third-party database extracts unless you have permission or the license permits submission and public research use in this context.
- Do not remove, obscure, or falsify third-party attribution, license notices, source ids, source links, change notices, or no-endorsement notices.
- Astrotechne may accept, reject, remove, moderate, edit, merge, deduplicate, annotate, preserve, or decline to publish public contributions.
- Astrotechne may decline public promotion, search indexing, report generation, API exposure, or export where source rights, privacy review, attribution, license compatibility, or data quality are unclear.
- Public exports or API responses may include third-party license notices, attribution, change notices, and source links that you must preserve.
- Correction, attribution, or removal requests can be sent to us, but removal may be limited where a contribution has already been published, copied, cited, backed up, transformed, merged into a dataset, or incorporated into aggregated or derivative research.
Third-party Open Datasets
Astrotechne may use third-party open datasets to support public chart records, public event records, identity enrichment, source trails, and research review. These datasets are not private workspace records, and their license terms may control how source facts, attribution, exports, and derivative records are handled.
Open Gauquelin Database records, if used in production, must keep source-layer attribution, license links, change notices, trust-level information, source ids, and no-endorsement notices. Special thanks or source acknowledgments are expressions of appreciation only and do not mean that Open Gauquelin Database, its maintainers, contributors, or historical data restorers endorse Astrotechne.
Astrotechne may keep third-party source provenance attached to copied charts, reports, public pages, exports, APIs, and correction history so that source obligations and research integrity are preserved.
Acceptable Use
- Do not use Astrotechne to harass, threaten, exploit, dox, or profile people in a harmful way.
- Do not enter personal information that you do not have a lawful or ethical basis to use.
- Do not upload malware, attempt to bypass access controls, scrape the service at scale, or interfere with service operation.
- Do not resell, sublicense, or provide hosted access to Astrotechne unless we agree in writing.
- Do not use Astrotechne outputs to make automated decisions that produce legal, financial, employment, housing, medical, or similarly significant effects for a person.
Beta and Changes
Some Astrotechne features may be beta, experimental, incomplete, or subject to usage limits. Features may change, move, break, or be discontinued. We may update the service, pricing, plans, quotas, and these Terms. When changes materially affect your rights or paid access, we will use reasonable efforts to provide notice.
Third-party Services
Astrotechne uses third-party services for payments, authentication, email, analytics, geocoding, hosting, storage, infrastructure, and related operations. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy notices. Stripe handles payment processing; Astrotechne does not store full card numbers.
Intellectual Property
Astrotechne, including its software, interface, design system, compiled datasets, documentation, branding, and non-user content, is owned by Astrotechne or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.
You may use reports and exports generated from your lawful use of Astrotechne for personal or client work, subject to these Terms and any plan limits.
Termination
You may stop using Astrotechne at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for the service or other users, fail to pay fees, or use the service in a way that could create legal or security exposure. After termination, some data may remain in backups, logs, records needed for billing, security, legal compliance, dispute handling, or de-identified research.
Disclaimers
Astrotechne is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, and accuracy of astrological, astronomical, geocoding, timing, or report outputs.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Astrotechne and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, business interruption, or substitute services. Our total liability for claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid to Astrotechne in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD $100 if you did not pay during that period.
Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Astrotechne and its operators harmless from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses arising from your content, your use of Astrotechne, your client or third-party data, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of another person's rights.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules, except where applicable law requires a different result. Venue for disputes will be in the state or federal courts located in California, unless applicable law requires another forum.
